Timmy Blue
Some turtles don't get a second chance because of what WE'RE eating. Are you accountable for a sea turtle's death?
Timmy was a good turtle. He was a big swimmer in his family, and he enjoyed to race with his friends. Sadly, he didn’t know right from wrong when it came to food, and he thought that all of the fun looking plastic would taste good, considering his family was having a hard time finding food. He was rushed to a turtle hospital after he began to feel very sick. Hundreds of pieces of colorful plastic were found in side of his stomach. Timmy was pronounced dead on Friday, February 20th 2011 at an Argentina turtle hospital. Doctors say that there was nothing they could do to save Timmy, and that he is is one of the many turtle victims of pollution. No matter how many turtles die every year, Timmy will be missed by many.
Lucy Yellow
Lucy was a green sea turtle. She was swimming along the east coast when cold temperatures suddenly struck. Lucy was exploring with her family and a few friends when she died from the cold, along with 11 others. Her whole party was rescued and taken the Sea Turtle Hospital in Topsail Beach for critical care. Lucy was pronounced dead on December 29th, 2011. Lucy enjoyed swimming with her friends, and exploring the coast with her family. The change in temperatures (rise and fall) are having effects on many sea turtles. Lucy was a special turtle. She was a straight A student at her school, and did a lot of extra circular activities and a few sports. Lucy will be missed.
Gayle Green
Gayle grew up with a plastic ring around his shell from a 6 pack of soda. Gayle had the ring on his shell since age 2 (he died at age 14) His internal organs couldn’t grow correctly because of the deformation in his shell. He died along the coast of Florida on July 28th, 2011. If humans took the time to cut the plastic rings, Gayle and many other turtles would have had a second chance at life. Gayle was named after “Gale” from the humans version of the Hunger Games. His mom named 7 of her eggs Haymitch, Effie, Prim, Katniss, Peeta, Rue, and Gale. She thought he best represented Gale because of his personality (she spelled it “Gayle” because it’s also a family name.) Gayle will be missed.
